Overview
Forest Fruits Ltd. is seeking a person with multiple technical-skills to lead its technical operations. This role is based in Lusaka (Chongwe District) but requires travel every 12 weeks to service our Mwinilunga location. The TM works closely with the General Manager (COO) and Managing Director (MD) to bring technical and value-added projects to life and to maintain operations.
The position involves managing & guiding technical functions and teams. The TM will be responsible for our technical innovation, vehicle maintenance & repair, efficiencies, overseeing fabrication and equipment development as well as technical systems and management. The TM must have experience in managing and working in Zambia.
The primary technical responsibility is to ensure our fleet of vehicles and motorbikes are always up and running and are efficient. Other strong mechanical and electrical/electronic technical skills are required, computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Whatsapp, Planning tools), the ability to source spares, technical expertise and technical information online are essential. Familiarity with electronic maintenance systems is also desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical & electrical maintenance of our vehicle fleet of 3 ex-military trucks and 12 motorbikes (DT 125) plus an assortment of 4×4 SUVs.
Assess & optimize vehicle and equipment efficiencies to control costs.
Manage/develop a small team of technicians and vehicle operators & ensure continuous training
Oversee preventive maintenance systems to ensure smooth operations.
Lead repair and maintenance of all vehicles, motorbikes, equipment & processing facilities in Lusaka, Mwinilunga and other remote sites as needed.
Collaborate daily with the General Manager on technical operational matters.
Work with Procurement & Logistics team to maintain an efficient stock/inventory system for the workshops.
Manage Standard Maintenance Procedures for vehicles, equipment & infrastructure
Install, maintain, repair processing machines (centrifuges, pumps, mixers, etc.).
Assemble and commission new processing equipment.
Engage directly with the Managing Director on Technical Projects and Innovations.
Collaborate closely with the General Manager, Managing Director, and Technical Solutions Designer on problem-solving and project implementation.
The Ideal Candidate will have the following Qualifications:
Advanced knowledge in mechanical repairs and maintenance, with some expertise in electrical, electronics, and fabrication.
Proven leadership experience in managing a technical team, with a focus on teamwork and results.
Strong supervisory and training skills.
Relevant experience of a minimum of 15 yrs and/or education suitable for a Technical Manager position.
Ability to read technical drawings (blueprints, schematics, fabrication designs).
Demonstrated problem-solving skills, taking ideas from concept to operational execution.
Experience in a food processing environment or process engineering is an advantage.
Familiarity with electronics, including:
Programming Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
Temperature Controllers
Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs)
Sensors (temp, pressure, flow, level)
Weighing systems
Electronic pressure control systems
Electric actuators
Strong multicultural communication skills, as the TM will work with staff across various levels.
Fluent in English (spoken and written), with strong interpersonal skills.
Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
Strong computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and sourcing equipment online.
Valid driver’s license for both motor vehicles and motorcycles.
