Job summary
Recruits and retains participants living with hepatitis B, provides hepatitis B counseling and health education, trains community health workers in hepatitis, and adheres to procedural and international guidelines for research conduct.
Main duties
- Trains and supervises a network of community health workers who provide hepatitis B testing, counseling, and referrals.
- Performs hepatitis counseling and testing in hospital and community venues.
- Welcomes potential participants and/or enrolled participants to the clinic
- Obtains participant informed consent and locator information
- Collects relevant participant data
- Navigates study participants with hepatitis B to have specific laboratory and radiology tests as required by the study and national guidelines.
- Provides back up for CRF/data entry
- Ensures specimens transport and retrieval
- Follows up on participants who require interim visits of who have missed appointments
- Performs self quality checks (QC) in a timely manner
- Maintains strict participant confidentiality and privacy at all times.
- Accountable and responsible for study resources and supplies, such as data collection forms, participant files, study equipment, and facilities.
- Communicates with fellow staff members openly and honestly about study progress, issues, and/or problems that may arise.
- Actively participates in problem solving and works collegially as part of the study team.
- Effectively collaborates with the community and district staff as necessary.
- Reports all community misconceptions about research and address any concerns in an expeditious manner to the study nurse or PI
- Provides high quality service to participants by maintaining pleasant relationships at all times and attending to participants in a timely manner.
- Acquire and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the study protocol.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 completion with at least 1 year experience in research and/or community education.
- At least 1 year prior experience working in hepatitis B research or programs
- Certificate in counseling or related field.
- Fluent in at least one local language of Nyanja or Bemba, preferable both.
- Able to organize and schedule multiple work-related tasks efficiently.
