The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is the implementing agency of the Federal Republic of Germany for technical and international cooperation. It offers flexible, sustainable and effective solutions in political, economic and social change processes. Most of the work of GIZ is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). GIZ also operates on behalf of other German ministries as well as public and private bodies in Germany and abroad. These include the European Commission, the United Nations, the World Bank and governments of other countries.

The aim of the project “Strengthening Girls’ Rights! Reproductive Health and HIV prevention for young women and girls in Zambia” is to support state and civil society actors in their efforts for prevention of HIV, early pregnancy and gender-based violence among young women and girls in Zambia. Cooperation with local authorities, religious and traditional authorities, parents and local health facilities is of particular importance. The project seeks to make a sustainable contribution to good governance and the implementation of a feminist development policy in Zambia. The project is part of the priority area “Good Governance” / “Peaceful and inclusive societies” in Zambia.

In this context, the project is seeking a suitable candidate for the following position:

Project Component Manager (band 5) – based in Lusaka  

REF: GIZ_SGR_PCM

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Management: Exercises line management functions and technical coordination of outputs and advisory services
  • Professional advisory services: Advises partner institutions (inter alia the National AIDS Council, Ministries of Health, Education, and Local Government) on commission clarification, identifying needs, developing concepts and strategies, and provides technical input
  • Participates in identifying needs for external support and advice, works on policy recommendations and develops a strategic approach
  • Coordinates and manages long and short-term consultants and contracts
  • Networking and cooperation: Ensures cooperation, regular contact and dialogue with partners, and with other projects to improve and maintain good working relationships
  • Knowledge management: compiles information and develops reports on the project and ensures knowledge transfer

Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • At least Master’s degree in an area that is related to the project objectives, or any other relevant field

Professional experience 

  • At least 10 years professional experience
  • At least 5 years experience working on HIV/AIDS, early pregnancies and/or gender-based violence
  • Work experience in the health and/or education sectors and/or governance sector

Other knowledge and additional competences  

  • Evidence of managing contracts, high level events, or processes independently
  • Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
  • Excellent command of the English (speaking and writing) language – German would be an asset
  • Very good presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, team working skills
  • Skills in political communication and partner-oriented advisory skills;

The successful candidate will be expected to start employment with GIZ, on a fixed term contract.
