Job Description

To grow the Debt and Trade Solutions (“DTS”) Business within the Corporate and Investment Banking (“CIB”) Division of First National Bank Zambia Limited. This will be achieved through deal origination, deal structuring, credit risk assessment, deal implementation and ongoing monitoring of transactions

  • Establish new and maintain existing client or partner relationships to ensure profitable transactions in the Debt and Trade Solutions product house.
  • Identify companies active in commodity trade flows; typically producers, traders, and users of commodities as well as those requiring funding for capital expenditure requirements and implement approved/sanctioned financing solutions (trade finance, short-term and long-term lending)
  • Create and implement innovative Debt and Trade solutions combining a thorough understanding of client’s needs, traditional trade finance tools (letters of credit, Guarantees, etc) and a thorough understanding of Corporate Credit quality and requirements
  • Identify and mitigate transaction specific risks including credit, market, taxation, accounting and legal
  • Convert new leads into deals closed, from origination, through structuring, the soliciting of credit approval and deal implementation, closure, and aftercare.
  • Manage the credit approval process for Debt and Trade Solutions transactions in its entirety
  • Assist the Legal Risk Team with review of transaction related facility and security documentation to ensure all commercial terms are included
  • Manage and assist with the deal closure and implementation process in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders including coverage, operations, legal, credit
  • Build on the existing strong relationships with all relevant internal stakeholders including Credit Origination, Legal, Compliance as well as Middle and Back-Office areas
  • Identify cross selling opportunities between Debt and Trade Solutions and other product areas within CIB (Banking Division and Markets Division) and within the Bank (Retail and Commercial Segments)
  • Achieve Strategy and Budget numbers for the product set, in conjunction with the team
  • Assist with developing innovative structuring solutions for trade finance using: Cash and Trade Collateral, Insurance, DFIs and other risk mitigants.
  • Assist with growing loan solutions portfolio for the bank using various structured and plain vanilla lending products
  • Develop strategic relationships with corporate clients that have been identified as key to the Bank’s strategy together with Client Coverage
  • Convert new leads into deals closed, from origination, through structuring, the soliciting of Credit Approve and deal implementation, closure, and aftercare.
  • Assist with the origination, structuring and implementation process around bespoke lending, trade finance and DCM solutions.
  • Draft detailed deal screen memos, including fundamental financial analysis and models and independent research using a variety of data sources
  • Conduct debt capacity analysis as well as putting together pitches and proposals and executing them participating in discussions with management regarding bespoke deal structuring
  • Manage the transaction execution process for multiple ongoing deals
  • Implement transactions by preparation or managing the preparation of complex multiple jurisdiction documents and compliance with all required procedures, laws, and regulations
  • Close transactions by obtaining the relevant internal approvals for the transaction and leading or actively participating in the successful conclusion of negotiations
  • Rate and price structured trade finance transactions and term funding according to a formalized Credit Rating Methodology, with assistance from Structuring team
  • Identify transaction specific risks including credit, compliance, taxation, accounting and legal
  • Manage the credit approval process in conjunction with Client Coverage
