Our client in Lusaka, is looking for a Mine Engineer, to join their team for a job vacancy within the fintech industry.

Overview

To provide detailed mine planning and engineering to the mine operations site.

Responsibilities

  • Hire and build a distributed, happy, and successful team in line with current legislation
  • Plan and execute long term strategies that benefit your team and the operation(s)
  • Develop and implement short range mine plans (surface initially then underground)
  • Prepare detailed maps, cross sections, or other drawings from geologic, topographic, cost, production, and other data
  • Provide drilling and blasting engineering along with engineering management and support for projects as assigned
  • Provide production, maintenance, equipment, and unit costs
  • Work closely with mining staff to conduct and monitor mining, blending and transport
  • Survey land for mining operations
  • Assist in the optimization of the mining process
  • Determine cost estimates for the development of mining properties
  • Identify and implement cost-saving measures
  • Ensure that any contract complies with company and governmental policy
  • Assist geologists with mapping geological disturbances and anomalies in affected mining areas
  • Maintain accurate records and maps
  • Assist and cooperate with governmental inspections and corporate audits
  • Uphold environmental health and safety policies
  • Understand mining KPIs and seek to improve them
  • Draft quarterly OKRs and mining KPIs for teams
  • Lead and drive significant results for multiple teams.
  • Leading business critical cross-functional initiatives in addition to managing a team.
  • Conduct managerial interviews for candidates, and train engineering seniors to do managerial interviews
  • Generate and implement process improvements, especially cross-team processes
  • Hold regular 1:1s with team members and skip-level 1:1s with indirect reports
  • Provide management mentorship
  • Enable team planning collaboration within mining groups
  • Contribute to the sense of psychological safety of multiple teams.
  • Give regular and clear feedback around the individual’s performance
  • Participate in the Incident Management on-call rotation to help ensure the availability goals for the company are met, by working with functional team members

Education and Training Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, geomatics, geology, or civil engineering
  • Experience in surface mining, short range mine planning, drilling and blasting, geological modelling, and surveying.

Professional Organizations and Associations (Optional)

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer
  • Societies for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration.
